CLUB CONSTITUTION


CLUB NAME: CXI

PREAMBLE


We, the members of CXI, to fully realize our purpose, do hereby adopt and establish this constitution as the guiding instrument of our Club.


ARTICLE I: NAME


The name of this club shall be CXI, hereafter referred to as CXI. The name is derived from the two main pillars this club is based on viz. Collaboration and Innovation. The backronym being Collaboration x Innovation.


ARTICLE II: PRINCIPLES


This club aims to contribute to MIET education. It shall not discriminate with regard to race, religion, age, ethnic or national origin, gender, physical ability, or sexual orientation.


ARTICLE III: PURPOSE


The purpose of the CXI shall be to promote and organize project skills and experience at MIET. The club aims to bring in collaboration from the students so as to build products or services that solve a common problem or give shape to an innovative idea while working in teams and learning new things.


ARTICLE IV: MEMBERSHIP


Section 1. Membership in CXI shall be limited to persons officially connected with Meerut Institute of Engineering and Technology as students, faculty or staff (with voting privileges restricted to students).

Section 2. Membership in CXI shall not be limited to persons based on their race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, ability, gender expression, gender identity or sexual orientation.

Section 3. Active membership in CXI shall be conferred upon those members who, in addition to the above requirements, have a GPA of 6.5 or more.


ARTICLE V: OFFICERS


Section 1. The officers of the Club shall be elected from the active members. Any student seeking to hold office must have and maintain an overall grade point average not less than 6.5.

Section 2. The elected officers of CXI shall consist of leadership roles, for example - President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, which shall serve as the Executive Committee.

Section 3. Officer's Duties:


A. The President shall preside at all CXI meetings and have the authority to appoint all committee chairpersons, to create new committees, to nominate a faculty advisor to be approved by the active members and to act as a spokesperson for the Club. He or she shall remove and replace club officers and representatives delinquent in duty, and shall be an ex-officio member of all club committees. The President may call special meetings.

B. The Vice President shall preside at all CXI meetings in the President's absence, and in the event of her/his resignation, shall become the President of the Club for the duration of the term. The Vice President will support the President on special projects.

C. The Secretary shall handle and keep a record of all CXI business and correspondence, including, but not restricted to recording minutes at all CXI meetings, keeping an up-to-date file on all members, and informing members of all CXI meetings and activities.

D. The Treasurer shall handle all financial transactions of the Club, including, but not restricted, to the collection of dues (if applicable) and recording all transactions.



Section 4. The faculty/staff advisor to CXI shall be nominated by the Executive Committee and approved by a majority vote of a quorum of active members. The faculty/staff advisor must be selected from full-time faculty or administrative staff members of the college.


ARTICLE VI: ELECTIONS


A. All officers shall be elected on or before August 1 of each year, and shall serve one-year terms, which may take effect after August 1.

B. All officers shall be elected by a majority of the votes cast. Only active members are eligible to vote. If no candidate for an office receives a majority of the votes cast, then only the top two candidates will be placed on a second ballot for that office until a majority is reached.

C. A quorum of two-thirds of the active membership shall be required for all meetings where officer nominations or elections take place.

D. All elections shall be conducted by secret ballot. The ballots shall be tabulated by any officer not on the ballot and the faculty/staff advisor.

E. The period between elections and the end of the spring term shall serve as an "overlap" or training period for new and old officers.


ARTICLE VII: REMOVAL FROM OFFICE


A. A CXI officer whose dereliction of duty adversely affects the operations of the Club shall be subject to disciplinary action or removal from office.

B. A written request stating the reasons for dismissal and signed by at least three (3) active members of the Club must be submitted at a regularly scheduled meeting.

C. Before the next regularly scheduled meeting, written notification of the request and the reasons for dismissal must have been given to the offending officer, who should come to that regular meeting prepared to speak.

D. A two-thirds (2/3) affirmative vote of all active members is required to remove the officer from office.


ARTICLE VIII: EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE AND SPECIAL COMMITTEES


A. There shall be a permanent Executive Committee consisting of the officers of the club and the faculty advisor.

B. The Executive Committee shall carry out the laws of the club, supervise and plan programs, and keep club records.

C. The Executive Committee may, with the approval of membership, assign such official duties as special reports, program chair, fund-raising chair, and others as needed, if no special committees exist for these purposes.


ARTICLE IX: MEETINGS


A. At least one official business meeting of the club must be held at the beginning of each semester.

B. Regular meetings shall be held at least once a month during the college year at times set by the Club.

C. The President may call special meetings at his or her discretion. Members must be notified in advance of each meeting.

D. Informal meetings shall be held at regular intervals.

E. At club meetings, a majority vote of those present is required for all business transactions.

F. At each general meeting, one-third of all active members shall constitute a quorum.

G. All club members will have the right to speak and vote at club meetings.


ARTICLE X: ACTIVITIES


A. Regular activities must be undertaken by the Club such that they contribute to the current projects,
community building or imparting new skills to the members.

B. Each member of the Club is required to contribute a minimum of 10 hours each week towards such
activities of which working on a project allotted to your team forms a major part.


ARTICLE XI: FINANCES


Section 1. The dues for CXI (if applicable) will be established by the Executive Committee. Payment of dues must be received by the Treasurer within one month of the first day of class of each semester to be an active member of CXI.

Section 2. CXI will finance its activities through membership dues, fundraising projects or funding from College or Government allocations, if so granted.


ARTICLE XII: INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY


The Club hereby assigns to the member all rights, including, without limitation, copyrights, patents and other intellectual property rights associated with any ideas, concepts, techniques, inventions, processes, works of authorship or Confidential Information

A. Developed or created by the member, solely or jointly with others, during the course of performing work for or on behalf of the Club or any affiliate of the Club.

B. That the member conceives, develops, discovers or makes in whole or in part during the period as a member of the Club that relate to the business of the Club or any affiliate of the Club.

C. That the member conceives, develops, discovers or makes in whole or in part during or after the member's enrollment to the Club that are made through the use of any of the equipment, facilities, supplies or time of the Club or any affiliate of the Club, or that result from any work the member performs for the Club or any affiliate of the Club, or

D. Developed or created by the member, solely or jointly with others, at any time before the enrollment, that relate to or involve the Club's businesses.


ARTICLE XIII: HAZING


Members of this club will not take part in any form of hazing. Hazing is defined as "any action taken or situation created intentionally by an organization or its members with the knowledge of consent of any ridicule to any member or prospective member".


ARTICLE XIV: AMENDMENTS


Section 1. Amendments to the Constitution must be proposed by an active member of CXI at any regular meeting at which two-thirds (2/3) of the active members are present.

Section 2. Amendments to this constitution may be adopted by a three-fourths vote of the voting members present.
